Minor ‘clashes' in OU give police tough time

Published - April 11, 2012 10:19 am IST - HYDERABAD:

After a lull for some time having witnessed pro-Telangana agitation with intermittent bouts of violence, the Osmania University campus is under the grip of tension again.

This time, however, it is not the Telangana issue that has triggered trouble. Clashes between student groups on non-Telangana issues have become the cause of concern for the police. A few days ago, third and second year students clashed in the Technology hostel over organising Techno festival, OU Inspector P. Ashok, said. The two groups belonging to the same college almost came to blows and approached the police lodging complaints and counter complaints.

Eventually, the college authorities intervened and brokered a compromise.

Two days ago, trouble broke out at a hostel near the Press when a student, Mogilaiah, allegedly picked up an argument with another student, Jagan, after seeing the latter speaking to two women. Jagan maintained that the two women were his cousins. Sometime later, Jagan and his friends went to Mogilaiah and chided him for intervening in Jagan's personal matters, the Inspector said. On Tuesday, Mogilaiah and his friends allegedly barged into Jagan's room, assaulted him.
