Medical shops in hospitals flout norms

Drug Control Administration (DCA) inspectors conducted a series of raids in medical shops attached to all major hospitals, clinics and nursing homes in the capital to verify compliance of provisions of drugs and cosmetics rules. A total of 98 medical shops were inspected, of which 70 medical shops were found not issuing bills while selling drugs and 50 medical shops were found selling drugs without the supervision of a registered pharmacist.

According to the DG, DCA, Dr. B. L Meena, action is being initiated on all erring shops. The DG also warned all medical shops that if they are found violating provisions, severe action will be taken.

Some well-known hospitals where in-house pharmacies were found to be violating rules include: C.C. Shroff Memorial Hospital Chemists, Barkatpura, Pace Hospitals and Pharmacy, Begumpet, Star Health Care Medical Stores, East Marredpally, Indo-US Medicals, a unit of Nano Hospitals, Ameerpet, Pharmacy in Sunrise Hospitals, Paradise, Axon medicals in Axon Hospitals, Vengal Rao nagar, Crescent Hospitals Pharmacy (Chemist and Druggists), Humayunnagar Nagar, Care Pharmacy (OP Pharmacy), Apollo Hospitals pharmacy, cardiology block, Jubilee Hills, Asian Medicals of Asian Institute of Gastroenterology, Somajiguda, Care inpatient pharmacy, Banjara Hills and Yashoda Super specialty hospital pharmacy, Raj Bhavan Road.
