Mayor warns private hospitals on dengue

Mayor Majid Hussain warned private hospitals of legal action if they were found to be spreading panic about dengue fever. Reacting to reports of about cases of dengue fever detected in the capital on Thursday, Mr. Hussain said of the seven cases cited only one case has been diagnosed as having symptoms of dengue.

“It is unfortunate that the private hospitals are going public about dengue cases without even waiting for the designated labs to confirm it. It will spread unnecessary scare among the public. It is the duty of every hospital to bring to the notice of the government, particularly GHMC, about any suspicious case for taking appropriate action, “ he pointed out.

GHMC Commissioner M.T. Krishna Babu informed him that legal notices were already issued to Sunrise Hospital, Narayanguda for spreading news about dengue cases. The municipal corporation was conducting a special sanitation and seasonal diseases drive, particularly in the slums.

Fogging and anti-larval operations were on as also awareness campaigns to control the mosquito menace, they said.

Earlier, TDP corporators led by their floor leader Singireddy Srinivas Reddy petitioned the Commissioner to take up a special action plan and a ten-day mosquito eradication drive by improving the garbage collection and cleaning up stagnation points.

Awareness programmes

At a separate programme in his Ahmednagar division, the Mayor wanted SHGs to be involved in conduct of awareness campaigns on the mosquito menace in slums. Chief entomologist Ratna Joseph listed the steps to be taken in each household to control the mosquitoes.
