Deputy Speaker Padma Devender Reddy and Minister for Irrigation T. Harish Rao on Sunday handed over the ex-gratia amount of Rs. 7 lakh each to the families of 14 children, who were killed in the train-school bus accident at Masaipet in Medak district on July 24.
The cheques were handed over to the families concerned in Islampur, Gundreddipalli and Kishtapur villages.
Of the ex-gratia amount, Rs. 5 lakh each is given by the State government while the remaining Rs. 2 lakh by the Indian Railways.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Harish Rao said the government would help the victim families in every possible manner.
The medical expenditure for super-speciality treatment of the injured children was also being taken care of by the State government, he noted.
The families of the injured children would also be given compensation of Rs. 1 lakh each by the State government, Rs. 1 lakh each by the Railways and another Rs. 1 lakh each under the insurance scheme, the Minister said.

On the State government request to take up safety measures at all unmanned level-crossings in Telangana, the Railways had assured to arrange gates at 16 level-crossings by the month end and at another 106 crossings in phases. Dubbak MLA S. Ramalinga Reddy and In-charge Collector of Medak Shanta also participated.
