Marginal rise in ORR toll charges

March 29, 2014 11:47 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 10:01 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

3 per cent revision will not be felt uniformly for all distances and for all class of vehicles, say officials

An annual revision of the toll charges of three per cent would be effected for vehicles using the Outer Ring Road (ORR) that rings the city beyond suburbs, from April 1.

The revision would mean a very marginal rise in the toll charges for using the stretches between Pedda Amberpet and Shamirpet via Shamshabad, Narsingi, Patancheru, Dundigal and Medchal. According to ORR officials, an estimated 32,000 vehicles were using every day the 119.45 km presently available of the total planned ORR length of 158 km.

In actual terms, the per-kilometre averages for vehicles would not be affected much and in some instances, might not be impacted at all. For instance, per km average hike for cars and vans would not be more than 0.04 paise while the same for 7-or-more axled vehicles would be around a rupee.

The officials said that the three per cent revision would not be felt uniformly for all distances and for all class of vehicles as rounding the toll charge to nearest Rs.10 was practised here. “For some distances between one point to another point, there might not be a rise in fee at all while for some other distances, it could be marginal,” he said.

At present, if the user fee for a certain distance worked out to Rs.13, then the vehicle was levied Rs.10 only as round-up-to nearest Rs.10 has been adopted. After revision, if the new fee worked out to say Rs.14 also, then the vehicle still would pay Rs.10.

The revision of user fee by three per cent each year for the ORR was based on the rates prescribed in the National Highway Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008 issued by the Ministry of Shipping, Road Transport & Highway.
