Manuguru town sub-inspector of police Jitendar has been attached to the office of the OSD at Kothagudem following serious charges of assaulting his wife and her close relative in Manuguru on Thursday.

Orders to this effect were issued by the higher-ups on Friday, sources said.

Jitendar allegedly punched his wife causing grievous injury in her mouth when the latter questioned his attempts to abandon her at his house in the coal town on Thursday.

He also allegedly kicked a woman, one of the close relatives of his wife, in the presence of few members of local women self-help groups who reportedly tried to take him to task for his unruly behaviour towards his wife and to sort out the differences between the inter-faith couple, sources added.

A video clip showing the SI thrashing his wife and a middle-aged woman went viral on social media triggering widespread condemnation from various women’s organisations.

The Manuguru police booked him under Section 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and Section 498 A (cruelty to women including harassment for dowry) of the Indian Penal Code.
