Man stabbed to death by in-laws in Hyderabad

A video-editing professional, who harassed and assaulted his wife repeatedly, was stabbed to death allegedly by his enraged brothers-in-law in Urdughar locality of the old city of Hyderabad late on Thursday night, police said.

The murdered man, Mohammed Muneer Ahmed, aged 30 years, is a resident of Yakutpura and had gone to his in-laws home to fetch his wife, when an altercation broke out with her five brothers. Angered over their refusal to send her with him, Muneer went away but returned an hour brandishing a knife.

As Muneer began threatening, his five brothers-in-law tackled him and in the melee that ensued, Muneer sustained serious knife injuries. He was rushed to Osmania General Hospital, but doctors could not save him.

Police said Muneer thrashed his wife on Thursday and she lodged a complaint with Rein Bazaar police. He was booked in a petty case and had paid a fine imposed on him in a local court.

Later, he went to his in-laws house and demanded that his wife accompany him, a demand which her brothers rejected outright leading to the murderous scuffle. The five accused persons - Syed Nayeemuddin, Syed Faheemuddin,Syed Ishaquddin, Syed Laiq and Imran have been arrested, according to Moghalpura Inspector P. Vijaya Kumar.
