A 25-year-old woman was throttled to death by her husband at their residence in Moosapet late on Wednesday after an altercation over family property, police said.

The deceased was identified as Jarpula Devi and the incident took place between 11 p.m. and 11.45 p.m. J. Narayan Singh, sub-inspector, Kukatpally said before throttling her, the accused, Jarpula Srinu, smothered Devi with her dupatta. The two children of the couple, aged 7 and 5, were fast asleep in the house at the time of occurrence of the incident, police said.

Mr. Singh said that the couple entered into an argument after Devi’s mother Pimple sold an open plot of her in Chintapally without informing them. “After the argument, the couple physically assaulted each other and later Srinu killed Devi,” he said. Based on a complaint by Devi’s sister S. Vanitha, a murder case was registered against Srinu, who is now absconding, the police said. In the complaint, Vanitha stated that she was also suspecting that Srinu’s relatives, Balakoti, Chitti and Bhaskar also helped the accused to kill her sister.
