Man held on charges of rape and murder

Syed Idris and his accomplice, who is at large, kidnapped and raped a woman and beaten her friend to death

A 27-year-old man was caught by the Cyberabad police on Tuesday for allegedly committing a rape and murder at Narsingi.

The arrested person has been identified as Syed Idris from New Hafeezpet. His associate Masiuddin (45), a real-estate businessman, is absconding, said Narsingi Inspector T. Anand Reddy.

The duo intercepted a 19-year-old woman and her friend Afroz at Himagirinagar while coming from a nearby hospital. Afroz took her to the hospital after her husband Azam assaulted her after a quarrel over a family matter.

Idris and Masiuddin attacked Afroz with sticks and kidnapped the woman in their car. They took her to an isolated place at Gopanpally village and violated her. She later managed to escape from the clutches of kidnappers and lodged a complaint with the police. Afroz, who sustained grievous injuries in the attack, died while undergoing treatment at the Osmania General Hospital, said Mr. Reddy. Acting on a tip-off, the police nabbed Idris while a hunt in on to trace Masiuddin. Idris was assisting Masiuddin in the real-estate businessman.
