A 25-year-old medical representative was caught by police on Thursday for allegedly trying to exact ‘favours’ from a cement company by posing as a CBI officer.
Police said Sada Krishna Chaitanya alias Jagadish, a native of Nellore and a resident of Nungambakkam in Chennai, made calls to Penna Cements introducing himself as a CBI officer. He requested for an appointment with the firm’s CMD to discuss a CBI case filed against the company.
He offered to help the firm in return for more projects to his uncle, the owner of a water purification company who had had several contracts worth lakhs from Penna Cements.

On receiving information a person had been impersonating as a CBI officer, an Inspector from the central probe agency’s Anti-Corruption Branch lodged a complaint with the Central Crime Station (CCS) here.
Based on the complaint, police booked a case, tracked the call details and zeroed in on Jagadish.
Police said Jagadish was initially an account manager at a private firm and later worked as a product specialist. Later, Jagadish’s uncle failed to get projects from the Penna Cements, landing him in financial problems. Jagadish had hatched the plan in a bid to hand his uncle fresh projects from the company.
