Mahesh Bank burglary: police pick up four suspects for questioning

Cyberabad Police book case against bank officials on charge of negligence in dealing with public property

Four employees of A.P. Mahesh Co-operative Urban Bank’s A.S. Rao Nagar branch were reportedly picked up by the Cyberabad police in connection with the sensational heist of 14 kg gold from the bank.

They emerged suspects in the burglary committed two days ago as the burglars managed to open the strong room using keys which were available only with the bank employees.

Of the two keys to the strong room, one was with the bank manager and the other in the custody of another staffer.

The strong room could not be opened without these two keys and this aspect pointed the needle of suspicion towards the bank employees.

Investigators were examining if the features of the person whose images were captured in a video footage of the secret camera in the bank matched with any of the suspects. The visual was captured when intruder was trying to disconnect power supply before committing the crime.

Alwal ACP G. Prakash Rao said, “We are questioning several persons.” Special police teams have been constituted to resolve the case were collecting details from different persons associated with the bank’s day-to-day activities.

The investigators had earlier questioned bank attender Ramulu, who was the first to come to the bank for work on Friday and found the shutter lock open.

Meanwhile, the Cyberabad police booked a case against the bank officials on charge of negligence in dealing with public property.

Based on a complaint lodged by a bank customer Nagamohan from Sainikpuri, the police invoked section 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) of IPC against them.
