It has been three months since senior IPS officer Ch. Dwaraka Tirumala Rao assumed charge as Cyberabad Police Commissioner. He lists outs his priorities and plan of action for better policing in Cyberabad.
What are the main issues you want to focus on in Cyberabad?
Containing the high rate of property crimes, including thefts and burglaries is our priority. Especially, controlling violent crimes like robberies and dacoities is our prime concern. Property crimes are increasing due to the growth of number of residential colonies on the outskirts. Instilling confidence among the people by stepping up security is our plan.

Focus is also on ensuring the safety of Information Technology sector offices and security of their employees, who commute round-the-clock depending on their shifts. Security of other industrial units such as biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies are equally important.
How are you planning to deal with land-grabbing related cases in the backdrop of advocate Ashok Reddy's murder which is said to be a consequence of a land dispute?
Our officers have been instructed to first distinguish if the land dispute is civil or criminal in nature. There is no point if the police don not interfere if a land dispute leads to law and order problems. The victims might approach persons acting illegally if their grievances are not addressed. In the wake of Ashok Reddy's murder, the field officers have been directed to list out land dispute cases which are likely to result in attacks and counter attacks. The cases pertaining to Bhagyanagar Society and Gurukul Trust will be reviewed for better monitoring.

Does the Cyberabad have adequate police force?
We have a shortage of personnel. But at the same time we want to do our best by offering better quality of service to the citizens within the available resources. The ever increasing population, rapid urbanisation, and the migration of people from surrounding rural areas make policing tough in Cyberabad. More personnel are being added to the existing strength in a phased manner. Once the force is strengthened, we hope to offer better services.
What are the initiatives you plan to take regarding traffic management?
We are focussing on improving the infrastructure pertaining to the traffic police. New buildings and accessories like reflective jackets and batons will be provided to the traffic policemen on the field. Keeping in view the summer, traffic constables at the junctions will be provided sunglasses. Simultaneously, plans are being drawn up to ensure smooth flow of traffic.
