Lightning strike kills a fisherman

Other fishermen retrieve body from LMD Reservoir

Sudden heavy rains followed by thunderstorm claimed a fisherman due to lightning strike on the LMD reservoir waters on the outskirts of Karimnagar town on Friday.

Police sources said that the fisherman Jetti Laxman (38) of Markendeya colony in Karimnagar town went fishing in the reservoir.

A thunderbolt struck him when he was fishing in the reservoir water and killed him.

Other fishermen retreived his body.

The unseasonal rains had caused extensive damage to the standing crops in various parts of Karimnagar and Rajanna-Sircilla district. The standing crops ready for harvesting such as paddy, cotton and maize were damaged in the fields due to the rains.

Karimnagar district reported an average rainfall of 38 mm. Jammikunta mandal recorded 75.4 mm, Karimnagar 72 mm, Veenavaka 60.2 and Manakondur mandal recorded 50 mm. In Rajanna-Sircilla district, Konaraopeta mandal received 86.4 mm rainfall, Vemulawada mandal recorded 72.8, Sircilla 66.4, Mustabad 60.4 mm and other mandals 30 mm.
