‘Kubusam’, a film shot against the backdrop of Telangana struggle on Sunday celebrated its 10 anniversary. Directed by L. Srinath, it has ‘Real Star’ Srihari in the lead and a host of little-known people in the cast.
Among other reasons why it attracted the spotlight is the song that goes ‘Palle Kanneeru Pedutundi’, with lyrics penned by Goreti Venkanna and music composed by ‘Vandemataram’ Srinivas.
Political analysts recall how this particular song was used by the late Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy to become Chief Minister in 2004.

To mark the 10 year of its release (August 3, 2002), producers Sravan Dasoju (now a Politburo member of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi) and Pradeep held a special screening of the film at the Preview Theatre in Prasad Labs here.
The packed audience on a lazy Sunday afternoon included senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Bandaru Dattatreya, Telangana Rashtra Samithi MLA K. Taraka Rama Rao (son of TRS chief K. Chandrasekhara Rao) and the newly-elected President of the A.P. Film Chamber of Commerce, Tammaredy Bharadwaja.
Mr. Sravan said he had invited Mr. Rama Rao and Mr. Dattatreya for the special screening, considering the political significance of the film.

After the film, Mr. Rama Rao put it succinctly, “As John F. Kennedy said, ‘when a peaceful revolution is made impossible, a violent reaction is inevitable’.
‘Kubusam’ captures this notion in a sensitive fashion with a lot of contemporary relevance.
It touches upon the vital aspects of the naxalite movement and presents both the State’s version and juxtaposes it effectively with that of naxalites.
It also exposes the double standards and convenient posturing of the political parties on this important issue of Telangana, calling it a socio-economic issue when in opposition and treating it merely as a law and order problem when in power. All in all, it’s a thought-provoking movie.” Mr. Dattatreya said the last time he went to a movie theatre was to watch ‘Brahmarishi Viswamitra’ starring the legendary NTR.
Asked about his experience watching ‘Kubusam’, he said it was interesting to watch how the director Srinath showcased his film, interspersing the message of the people’s aspirations of a separate State.
