102nd birth anniversary of the freedom fighter celebrated across Telangana

Stalwarts born in Telangana did not get due recognition in the unified State of Andhra Pradesh, Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy said.

“Soon after the separate State of Telangana was formed the the TRS government led by K. Chandrasekhar Rao started recognizing the services of the great people of the region, and the Horticulture University was named after Konda Laxman Bapuji,” the Minister said while addressing at the 102nd Jayanti celebration of Konda Laxman Bapuji here on Wednesday.

Earlier the Minister led the people in paying homage to the freedom fighter by garlanding his statue and portrait. Among those who attended the celebrations included ZP chairman D. Raju, MLC R. Bhoopathi Reddy, MLA B. Ganesh Gupta, Mayor A. Sujatha, In-charge Collector A. Ravinder Reddy and TRS district president E. Ganga Reddy.

On the occasion, the Minister inaugurated the blood donation camp organized under the aegis of the Indian Red Cross Society and distributed tricycles to differently abled persons.

Meanwhile, birth anniversary of the freedom fighter was also celebrated at Kamareddy district headquarters by garlanding his statue and portraits. Government Whip Gampa Govardhan, Collector N. Satyanarayana and TRS district president Mujeeb participated in the programme.

The 102nd birth anniversary of Konda Laxman Bapuji was celebrated in formerly undivided Adilabad with much enthusiasm. Leaders from backward classes and officials attended the functions and lauded the work of the freedom fighter in quest of the concept of social Telangana. Konda Laxman Bapuji was born in a poor family in the remote Wankidi mandal, now in Kumram Bheem Asifabad district. He had served as Asifabad MLA and later as a minister in the Cabinet of P.V. Narasimha Rao, speakers recalled.

The BC Welfare Department organised the events at Adilabad, KB Asifabad, Mancherial and Nirmal districts. In Adilabad, two youth who spoke about the BC leader were felicitated.
