Kindergarten student run over by private bus

A kindergarten student came under the wheels of a private bus at Malakpet on Saturday morning. T. Maheswari (5) of Kagazkhana area in Old Malakpet was returning home after buying a ball from a nearby store when the accident took place.

“The girl was crossing the road when the bus hit her. She fell on the road and came under the front wheel of the bus. The driver was driving rashly,” Chaderghat Sub Inspector Y. Kamal Kumar said.

Soon after the incident, locals assembled in large numbers and damaged the windscreens of the bus. The Chaderghat police rushed to the spot and pacified them. The bus driver was taken into custody.

A one-and-half-year-old boy who fell from a building at Rajendranagar three days ago died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital on Saturday. Tanmay of Begum Bazaar along with his mother and elder brother had come to his grand parent’s house at Tejaswininagar in Attapur a week ago to spend summer vacation.

On Wednesday, the child was playing in the balcony of third floor when he slipped and fell.

ID liquor seized

Officials of the Charminar Prohibition station on Saturday raided two illicitly distilled liquor sale points in Old City and seized 2,100 sachets. On a tip off, the police raided a sales point at Lalithabagh, run by one Neethu and seized the 1,200 sachets. The remaining sachets were recovered following a raid at a sales point run by one Jahangir in Falaknuma.

Cricket betting

racket busted

The Rajendranagar police busted a cricket betting racket with the arrest of two persons on Saturday. The accused -- Mohd. Jalaluddin, 25, and Amit Rajesh Velani, 23 -- were accepting betting amount at Jeevani Kirana shop in Happy Homes buildings in Upparpally from punters, the police said. An amount of Rs.10,800 and two mobile phones were seized from them.
