Complains against rumour that he quit as his name was not found on Metro rail inaugural plaque

Hyderabad Mayor Bonthu Rammohan on Tuesday approached the police, seeking action against “mischief mongers” who spread reports online that he had resigned from the post as his name was not mentioned on the Hyderabad Metro Rail opening ceremony plaque. Some persons posted on the Facebook page of a website that the first citizen of Hyderabad had resigned, miffed over his name not being found on the plaque. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Metro Rail by unveiling the plaque of HMR pylon in Miyapur earlier in the afternoon. “No case is registered yet. We will inquire into the complaint,” said Hyderabad Central Crime Station Additional DCP Raghuveer.

“Yes, the Mayor lodged a complaint orally,” Hyderabad Central Crime Station Additional DCP Raghuveer said. The Mayor told the police that he would give a written complaint later since he was occupied with Global Entrepreneurship Summit programmes on Tuesday.

He had sent to the police a snapshot of the Facebook page of Spirit of Telangana website. Some persons posted a statement on its page with question mark stating that the Mayor had decided to resign over absence of his name on the plaque.

It was also mentioned that Mr. Rammohan didn’t want to quit the Telangana Rashtra Samithi and wanted to continue as corporator. A photo of the plaque was also posted on the page. Another comment in Telugu on the same page raised the question if the Mayor’s Backward Class caste was the reason for his name not being mentioned on the plaque.

Many persons posted their reactions and responses on the page, believing his resignation rumour to be true. As some started circulating the snapshot through WhatsApp, unconfirmed reports of Mayor’s resignation went viral. “No case is registered yet. We will inquire into the complaint,” Mr. Raghuveer said.
