ISB, University of Pittsburgh ink MoU

India is home to 110 million people aged over 65 years

The Indian School of Business (ISB) and the University of Pittsburgh, USA., on Friday entered into a memorandum of understanding.

Under the five-year MoU, the two institutions will work on joint research projects; promote exchange of scholarly publications and reports; and share experiences in innovative teaching methods and course design.

Conduct of joint symposia, workshops and conferences, besides work on faculty development and exchange as well as exchange of students are also envisaged under the MoU, the contours of which were shared at a meeting in ISB campus here.

Dean of ISB Rajendra Srivastava said with “this prestigious MoU with the University of Pittsburgh, we are keen to take up joint initiatives of global importance touching upon various areas of collaborative research and pedagogy.”

Through this MoU, “we will work together to take ideas and research from the laboratory to the marketplace to enhance healthcare delivery systems,” he said, while pointing out that the University of Pittsburgh has been a trendsetter and a pioneer in the area of healthcare research.

Chancellor of Pittsburgh University, Patrick Gallagher, said he looked forward to collaborating with ISB to design strategic programmes in the areas of business, engineering and the medical sciences. It would also lead developing healthcare and engineering innovations that will benefit people and communities around the world.

To queries, Mr.Srivastava said India, whose demographic dividend or the large population of young people is often highlighted, is also home to 110 million people aged over 65 years. It is in this context such joint, multi-faceted initiatives in the field of healthcare assume significance.

“If anybody is looking for problems to solve, we have lot of problems and healthcare is certainly very big,” he said. ISB, which had received a major grant from the Gates Foundation, is working to assimilate and aggregate data related to healthcare, across India, he added.

A round table on ‘Innovation from Lab to Patient/Market’ followed the MoU signing.
