Intelligent transportation system planned for city

April 17, 2012 10:21 am | Updated 10:21 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The city civic departments including GHMC, HMDA, Traffic Police and the APSRTC have all decided to join hands for setting up an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) for a coordinated approach towards traffic management, signals, junction improvement, bus shelters, etc.

GHMC Commissioner M.T. Krishna Babu said on Monday that the Japan International Cooperative Agency (JICA) had in principle agreed to fund the project now that a master plan was prepared for the same. The municipal corporation will do lane marking on all city roads irrespective of whether they belong to Roads & Buildings (R&B) Department and civil works like improvement of 200 junctions.

Bus lanes are to be earmarked on the left side of the road with proper signages. After reviewing the existing traffic conditions and future plans related to their respective organisations, the civic heads decided to work in tandem.
