Intelligence DSP shoots himself dead

Intelligence Security Wing DSP K. Suresh Rao shot himself dead with his service pistol of nine mm calibre in his office at Khairatabad on Friday. Till a month ago, he worked as the personal security officer of Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

The DSP came to the ISW office on Khairatabad main road adjacent to Transco building around 4.15 p.m. and sat in his chair on the first floor of the building. A few minutes later, others working in the building rushed to his room on hearing the sound of a gunshot only to find him in a pool of blood.

No suicide note

“Suresh Rao apparently shot himself on the right side temporal region of his head. The bullet exited from the left side of his head before hitting his office wall,” West zone DCP V. Satyanarayana said. Office staff rushed him to Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences where doctors declared him brought dead.

No suicide note was found either at his house or in his office. The DSP was depressed for quite some time and underwent treatment for some neurological ailment recently. He got admitted to a corporate hospital on July 19. After 11 days, he got discharged.

Shifts to ISW after promotion

Before getting admitted to hospital, he worked as PSO to the CM. He joined duty again on July 31 and was assigned regular DSP duties in the ISW office as another officer replaced him as PSO to the CM. Suresh Rao of Dalpally of Elkaturthy in Karimnagar district joined as SI of A.P. Special Police. After getting promoted as Inspector, he shifted to ISW.

He became DSP nearly two-and-half-a-years ago. A case of suspicious death under Section 174 of Criminal Procedure Code was registered. Senior police officials, including Hyderabad Police Commissioner M. Mahender Reddy, came to NIMS and inquired how the incident had occurred.
