The GHMC has decided to observe the first Friday of every month as ‘Biodiversity Day’, to develop the parks in the city and improve them by holding meetings with walkers and visitors.
At a review meeting on Monday, GHMC Commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy has asked the Urban Biodiversity wing officials to bring innovation into the development of parks in the city.
Hanging gardens, ‘Pancha Tanthra’ parks for children, Chinese model parks, and parks with vintage model vehicles were some ideas he suggested to the officials for the new parks to be taken up.

The Corporation could build 75 parks in the city against the targeted 100 for the financial year, and the remaining would be completed by March-end, Mr. Janardhan Reddy said, while directing officials to take up compost pits in the existing as well as newly-constructed parks.
He also asked them to revive the 84 fountains in the city, and finalise their annual maintenance contracts.
The GHMC will take up plantation of 40 lakh saplings as part of the Haritha Haram programme, next June. Mr. Reddy issued directions to that effect, and said 35 lakh of these plants will be raised by the GHMC while tenders will be called for the rest five lakh.

He asked officials to identify sites where 20,000 to 50,000 saplings could be planted at once. He directed officials to make provision for growing medicinal plants in GHMC’s 19 garbage transfer stations.
Mr. Reddy said the Hyderabad Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has agreed to establish water harvesting parks in all the parks over two acres of area, a press statement from GHMC has informed.
