A baby boy was drowned in a bucket of water within minutes of birth by his ‘unmarried mother’ in a hospital at Gachibowli on Monday, the police said.
The woman Himaja, 22, is recuperating having been admitted in the same hospital due to profuse bleeding during the delivery. The Raidurg police registered a murder case against her. “We’ll examine her once she regains her health,” Raidurg Inspector D. Durga Prasad said.
Hailing from Bhadrachalam district, the woman approached the management of Kakatiya hospital three days ago seeking a job. An employee of the hospital, Naveen accompanied her. She claimed that she was a lab technician. It is said that Himaja wore clothes to hide her pregnancy.

“Other employees of the hospital too maintained that her behaviour and appearance didn’t arouse any suspicion of pregnancy,” the Inspector said.
She was on duty on Sunday evening shift. Some time after midnight, a worker of the hospital came to inform something to the woman but she was not found at her room. A little later, the workers grew suspicious as they heard small cries and noises from the wash-room.
They knocked on the door but the woman bolted it from inside and didn’t respond to their calls.

“We tried to forcibly open the door and could notice from the gap in the door that blood had spilled all over on the floor,” a hospital employee told the police.
The workers saw the woman drowning the newborn baby in a bucket of water. While shouting at her not to do so, they broke open the door.
“Finally, they opened the door but the baby had died by then. The woman was shifted to emergency room,” the Inspector said.
Inquiries by the investigators indicated that the woman was not married. She killed the baby apparently unable to explain to family and society about giving birth to a child, the police said.
