The State government is planning to make the prestigious project, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Smriti Vanam involving the installation of a 125ft statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar along with a memorial, as a role model to the country.

SC Welfare Minister G. Jagdish Reddy who chaired a meeting of the high power committee constituted to oversee the implementation of the project examined the designs submitted by a Noida-based firm. After watching a presentation on the project along with Buddhavanam chairman Mallepalli Lakshmaiah they decided to finalise the designs with minor modifications in the next meeting.

The participants discussed about the area that would be needed for the installation of the statue and resolved to take a final call on the issue by the next meeting after which a presentation would be made before Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao for his approval.

A brain child of the Chief Minister, the announcement of the project coincided with the 125th birth anniversary of the architect of the Constitution.

The government had deputed a team to study the models in China and Sikkim for the project and the team had submitted its report recently. The Chief Minister desired that the project be ready before the next birthday of Dr. Ambedkar and directed the officials and Ministers concerned to expedite works in this regard. Accordingly, it was decided that the designs would be finalised first, after which the government could initiate the tender process for taking up the prestigious project by October.
