Electoral defeats, a controversial political migration and some politically incorrect statements later, journalist-turned-politician Shazia Ilmi’s has lost no spark.
On Friday, a group of young women entrepreneurs listened in rapt attention to the BJP spokesperson, who touched upon various issues and topics related to politics.
Conveying her anguish over the recent death of farmer Gajendra Singh in Delhi, Shazia Ilmi said she would have averted the tragedy if she was still with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

“If I was there at the rally, I would have averted it. Unlike the self-seeking leaders, I barely sit on stage and usually mingle with people. The incident is very disturbing and everyone seems to be doing politics over it.”
She was delivering the keynote address on Principle Politics , at an event organised by the FLO (FICCI Ladies Organisation) and YFLO (Young FICCI Ladies Organisation).
“We should be talking about Gajendra Singh and his family. Nobody seems to be asking important questions like who wrote his suicide letter and at whose behest? The farmer is from Rajasthan so why did he not ask for compensation in that State and why did he attend the rally?”

She felt biases were strong in present-day politics and that it was time for clean citizens to step in in huge numbers. “What matters is how we vote and we vote on the basis of caste, religion, region and many such considerations. Otherwise, how do Mayawati and Mulayam Singh Yadav keep getting elected? The professionals, the educated, should enter politics in large numbers,” Shazia Ilmi said.
Praising the NDA government for its transparent functioning devoid of scams, she rated Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the best leader in the country currently had.
Earlier, Rekha Lahoti and Samia Alam Khan assumed office as chairpersons of FLO and YFLO respectively.
