Hyderabadi groom does the vanishing act

Just hours before the wedding vows were to be exchanged, a bridegroom disappeared from the scene, leading to the cancellation of the marriage.

Reconciliation talks were later held between the two parties at a police station on Sunday morning.

The marriage between Kavita and Naresh Kumar, who works at a plastic firm, was fixed by elders from both families about a month ago. Kavita’s family had made all arrangements for the wedding, including booking the function hall, hiring caterers, band and florists for the big event.

They had also spent heavily on shopping for the solemn occasion, only to be shocked out of their wits when told of the mysterious case of the groom going missing from his house from Saturday morning.

“Naresh said he was going to handover the wedding invite to one of his friends but he has not returned so far,” a relative said.

The marriage hall at Borabanda wore a desolate look.

“We are upset. We had to stay awake throughout the night as we feared the girl may resort to some drastic steps, traumatised by the turn of events,” another relative said

“We booked the function hall with great difficulty and paid a substantial amount as advance to the management. We also paid advance money to the cooks to spread a lavish lunch for the guests. All these have proved to be a mere waste,” P. Shanker, a relative lamented.

The bride’s family members later approached the Sanathnagar police station, claiming they had been cheated by the bridegroom.

However, both parties reconciled after the groom’s family promised to return all articles and cash taken as part of the expenditure incurred.
