The city police on Tuesday arrested a conman on charge of cheating public by promising to help them get treasure trove buried in their houses. Two motorcycles, Rs. 3.28 lakh cash, brass biscuits coated with gold polish and fake American diamonds were seized from him.

The arrested person, Anwar ullah Khan alias Dr. Anwar Khan alias Disco Baba, allegedly cheated several persons over the last few years and collected lakhs of rupees from them, the police said.

In a recent case, Anwar got in touch with Shaik Khalid, a horse stable owner of Chudi Bazaar under Shahinayatgunj police station limits and told about the presence of a treasure trove buried in his house. “Anwar told Khalid certain rituals have to be performed to get it and collected Rs.60,000 from him,” DCP (West) A Venkateswara Rao said.

After taking the money Anwar dug up a pit in the house of Khalid and gave him some fake gold biscuits and diamonds. He asked him to keep it covered in a cloth for one month. However, Khalid got suspicious and visited a goldsmith to verify the quality of gold. After finding that the ‘gold biscuits’ were fake, he approached the police.

Based on complaint made by Khalid the police registered a case and arrested Anwar. Investigation revealed that he cheated many other persons in a similar manner. Three more cases were registered against him at Kulsumpura, Asifnagar and Habeebnagar police station limits after three more victims approached the police.
