Hyderabad Metro Rail to have Otis lifts and escalators

The contract worth over Rs. 400 crore is for 410 escalators and 260 lifts to be installed all across the 72 km routes in stations and depots-cum-offices

L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad, the concessionaire building the elevated metro rail for the city across three traffic corridors, has announced that Otis Elevator Company will he supplying the lifts and escalators for the project.

The contract, which is worth more than Rs. 400 crore, is for 410 escalators and 260 lifts to be installed all across the 72 km routes in the three corridors in the stations and also depots-cum-offices. The heavy duty elevators and escalators for the project will be manufactured in the Otis factories at Guangzhou, China.

The Letter of Award (LoA) was signed and exchanged by L&TMRH Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director V.B. Gadgil and Otis Elevator Company Managing Director Sebi Joseph at the L&TMRH office on Tuesday.

“We are well within our time frame of executing the project ahead of schedule. We have successfully accomplished placing all major equipment contracts as per schedule,” pointed out Mr. Gadgil.

Altogether, there will be 260 lifts, four each in 55 stations; 13 at three ‘special’ stations; 22 at the three inter-change stations where two different corridors will be meeting at Ameerpet station (Corridor I & III), MGBS station (Corridor I & II), Parade Grounds Station (Corridor II & III) and four more at the office buildings/depots and one at the workshop.
