HMR says church will not be disturbed

The St. Thomas Tamil Cathedral Church at Secunderabad and the cemetery will not be touched by the Metro Rail project authorities.

This assurance was given by the Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) officials to the A.P. State Minorities Commission.

Notices issued

Following a complaint that the Metro Rail corridor was passing through the 160-year-old church and graveyard, the commission, headed by Abid Rasool Khan, issued notices to the Managing Director, HMR, and the Commissioner, GHMC.

The HMR official, who appeared before the commission on Monday, promised that the church or the graveyard would not be disturbed. He sought 10 days to file a report detailing the alignment.

Allotment of shops

At its meeting held here, the commission decided to refer allotment of shops at Nabi Khana Moulvi and Patherghatti to the Vigilance and ACB for enquiry.

One Mohammed complained to the commission that though he was given the allotment order in 2006 after payment of the required fee in the bank, physical possession has not been given. The shops, he alleged, were allotted on the basis of illegal gratification.

Other cases

The commission also received complaint about five serial murders of boys belonging to minority community at Nirmal in the last one year. In all the five cases, same accused was arrested but let off due to improper investigation.

The commission decided to look into the matter and appealed to all communities to maintain peace.

The commission also received a complaint about denial of BC-E certificates to a section of minorities. The commission is examining the report of the study committee with regard to formation of madrasa board.
