GST will create a lakh jobs now: Dattatreya

‘Workshops conducted to clear doubts’

Terming the roll out of Goods and Services Tax (GST) as a historic occasion, Union Minister of State for Employment Bandaru Dattatreya said that it would streamline tax structure and create one lakh jobs within three months.

Speaking to reporters here, Mr. Dattatreya also said in addition around 60,000 persons would get employment in accountancy sector too.

The Government, in association with different institutions conducted 1,118 workshops in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh states in the last six months to drive away apprehensions among the traders and the general public, he said.

Comprehensive manual

Some 150 GST Seva Kendras were set up and a manual which contains complete information was also made available to help the traders.

The Minister said that with the roll out of GST, 17 types of taxes were abolished and nearly 1500 tax slabs have been brought down to only four. The GST is bound to decrease the inflation with the prices of essential commodities likely to come down and the country’s growth rate is likely to hit 9% now.

Mr. Dattatreya found fault with the Opposition parties for blindly opposing the GST and confusing the people. He said there would be some uncertainty initially with the new system but the nation would benefit apart from the people. Central Excise Commissioner Sunil Jain was also present.
