Nizamabad MP inaugurates residential college for ST girls

The State government is opening more residential schools and colleges in line with the idea of Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao to promote literacy and education among girl children, Member of Parliament K. Kavitha said.

“The Chief Minister found many girls discontinuing education at different levels due to financial problems of their parents. The State government has decided to open 22 residential colleges for girsl from Scheduled Tribes and 23 for girls from Scheduled Castes. They are being opened in a phased manner,” she said while opening Government Residential Degree College for ST Girls, here on Wednesday.

Better life

She said that this year only two courses — B.Sc Biological Sciences and B.Sc Microbiology — were introduced and from next year admissions would be taken up in all courses. The college will have strength of 320 students in each year, she added. She asked the students to strive for a better life and take Everester Malavath Poorna as an example.

Advising parents to encourage girls to pursue higher education Ms. Kavitha said that the poor need not be afraid of the future of girl children as the Government was supporting them in all fields. To encourage institutional deliveries Government had introduced incentives that include KCR kits and cash transfers into the account of the mother ₹14,000 in case of male baby and ₹15,000 in case of female baby, she said.

Hospital facilities

The MP said that ₹90 crore was being spent to improve facilities at the Government General Hospital here. The female population is higher than the male population in the district and elected representatives should come forward to promote education and development of girl child, she said.

In-charge Collector A. Ravinder Reddy, Mayor Akula Sujatha, ZP vice-chairperson G. Sumana Reddy, NEDCAP chairman S.A. Aleem and TRS district president E. Ganga Reddy were present. Later she attended the district meeting of Gosangi community.
