April 13, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan was given a detailed briefing about the prevailing drought situation in the State and the steps being taken up by the State Government towards mitigating the sufferings of the people, by senior officials here on Tuesday at Raj Bhavan.

Special Chief Secretary S.P. Singh, who is also looking after the Panchayat Raj and Rural Development departments, met the Governor, who was especially keen to know the availability of drinking water, migration in search of employment and cattle feed in the villages.

Mr. Singh provided an insight into the acute drought in nine of the 10 districts in the State and how the drinking water needs were met in different areas and how the entire official machinery was geared up to tackle the situation. There was no presentation but only an ‘informal meeting’ in the Raj Bhavan, official sources insisted. The meeting was a result of the representations received by the Governor from various Opposition parties that the drought was pretty acute.
