Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy on Sunday inaugurated Golnaka bridge and laid foundation stone for Krishna Nagar Bridge and promised support and necessary budget for development of the city.
Mr. Reddy arrived at the venue much behind the schedule and the large crowd that initially gathered for the inaugural event got dispersed due to the rain. Women from surrounding colonies too had assembled in good numbers but with the delay in his arrival and because of the heavy rain, only a handful of party workers and few others were left. Local leaders made vain bid to keep the crowd busy but the event got washed out literally. Children hung around for some time and few of them broke into impromptu rain dance on the podium set up for the television cameras even as others stood around with plastic chairs held on heads to shelter from rain.
The construction of Golnaka bridge across river Musi connecting north and south banks on road from Golnaka to Race Course comes as an important link between Amberpet, Tilak Nagar and Nallakunta on one side and Wahedi Nagar, Afzal Nagar and Malakpet on the other. The 426.80 metre bridge built at an estimated cost of Rs.6.42 crore has 16 spans and 15 piers. The Krishna Nagar bridge for which foundation stone was laid today has been proposed to decongest traffic on NH-202 at Golnaka junction and on existing narrow bridge.
