The railway police found Basha’s body between Uppuguda and Fakalnuma railway stations on Sunday morning and handed over to the family members

A GHMC contract worker allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a train between Uppuguda and Falaknuma railway stations on Saturday even as his family members cried foul over the incident alleging that he ended his life due to police harassment.

Shaik Mehboob Basha, 29, of Kumarwadi in Edi Bazaar called up his wife Kasima Bee from a public telephone booth on Saturday evening stating that he was committing suicide as he was unable to bear the police torture. He said that Shahinayathgunj police were harassing him for the past few days demanding information about his relative Mohammed Ghouse who was reportedly involved in theft cases and abruptly disconnected the call.

Anxious family members again dialled the number and found that Basha called from Uppuguda. They rushed to the spot and searched for him but could not trace him. However, the railway police found Basha’s body between Uppuguda and Fakalnuma railway stations on Sunday morning and handed over to the family members.

“Police officials are responsible for my husband’s death. They used to harass him on the pretext of seeking information about Ghouse,” Kasima Bee alleged.

When contacted, Shahinayathgunj Inspector P. Sattaiah, he was not aware of the incident.
