Taking the guesswork out of day temperatures, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has added a nifty widget to its official website with weather updates at the micro level. For the first time, readings from 36 stations spread across the city have gone live.

Some of the areas which house the measuring stations include Jubilee Hills, Madhapur, Balanagar, Uppal, Jeedimetla, Ramchandrapuram, and Himayatnagar, besides others. Some of the parameters include maximum and minimum temperatures, rainfall, wind speed, wind direction and humidity.

In the event of rainfall, each of the stations will also be classified under ‘very heavy rainfall’, ‘heavy rainfall’, ‘rather heavy rainfall’, ‘moderate rainfall’, ‘light rainfall’, ‘very light rainfall’ and ‘no rainfall’.

While a majority of these stations are being maintained by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the rest are the responsibility of the GHMC.

“We have hired two members who will be working from the IMD office. Though they are GHMC staff, they will collect the information and upload the details from the IMD office. All the 36 stations are part of the network and efforts are on to provide the readings on a daily basis,” informed a senior official of the Disaster Management Wing of the GHMC.
