Gang of four caught with fake currency

A gang of four persons, including three women working in a tailor shop, were caught with counterfeit currency notes by the Tappachabutra police of west zone on Friday.

A Ford Figo car, fake currency notes having ‘face value’ of Rs. 36,000 in Rs. 1,000 denomination and Rs. 45,820 in original currency were seized from them, Inspector B. Ravinder said.

While the arrested D. Laxminarayana, 42, E. Anitha, 24, K. Saritha, 24, and G. Harika, were produced before the court, a hunt is on to catch the kingpin, Srinath Reddy, who was absconding and supplied the fake currency notes to them. Laxminarayana told the police that Srinath Reddy of Anantapur had supplied him the fake notes, offering him some commission to exchange the same through shopping.

“Laxminarayana, running the tailor shop in Musheerabad, asked his women workers to purchase articles like clothes or groceries using the counterfeit currency notes of Rs. 1,000 denomination,” the Inspector said. They were doing so for past few weeks but were caught during vehicle checking. Investigators are not sure if Srinath Reddy directly got the fake notes made or procured them through others.
