The system to have GSM-based automation

A major and important stretch on the Outer Ring Road, between IT corridor and the Airport road, will be installed with energy-efficient and smart LED lighting system. The project will provide LED street lighting from Gachibowli to Shamshabad at a cost of Rs 30 crore. The 24.38 km length of the ORR will get LED lights in three months and the project is being executed by Philips Lighting India Ltd.

While the main carriageway would have 1,858 LED lamps of 210 watts, the service roads would be illuminated with 2,312 lamps of 90 watts each. The ramps and junctions would also be equipped with the new set of lights.

The unusual feature of this system is the dimmer option. The automation system lets the lights dim by 50% during low traffic so as to reduce power consumption. In case of abnormality in the installed units, an alarm message would also be sent to the staff members concerned. According to the estimates prepared by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority, ₹26 lakh would be saved monthly once the project is completed due to the reduced usage of power.
