In a major initiative in the public health sector, the Telangana Government on Friday launched the first dialysis centre set up in the public-private-partnership (PPP) model at Siddipet in the State.
Seen as a major boon to poor patients suffering from kidney-related problems, the PPP dialysis centres will come up at 39 government hospitals in all in the State and a total of 73 units with single-used filters will be made available. All those suffering from the problem and having Aarogya Sri health cards could undergo dialysis without any payment at these centres.
According to the officials of Medical and Health Department, the single-used filter dialysis facility is being introduced for the first time in the public health sector in the country in Telangana. The single-used filter system would give no scope for infection compared to re-use of filters after cleaning it in the existing method.

In the existing system filters would be used repeatedly by cleaning them after every use, thus increasing the chances of infection to patients. No where in the country is the single-used filter system being used in the public health sector, the officials said.
The State Government would pay Rs.1,325 per dialysis to private agencies setting up the centres.
The government would provide space, water and electricity facilities to the PPP dialysis centres in government hospitals and the equipment would be installed by private agencies along with personnel required.

Only the NIMS, Osmania, Gandhi, Nizamabad and Mahabubnagar general hospitals have the dialysis facility. The remaining 38 PPP dialysis centres would come up at district and area hospitals and a few community health centres.
