Four property offenders in police net

The Saidabad police on Tuesday arrested four members of a gang of property offenders who robbed women of silver ornaments and cash while the latter were in an inebriated condition.

The accused Ramavath Laxman (30), K Tirupathi (22), V. Babu (22) and Korra Shankar (21) all labourers formed a gang and went to toddy compounds in and around the city to target women. “The accused would wait near a toddy compound and on spotting a woman coming out in an inebriated state would offer her a ride. After taking them to a secluded place, they would take away their silver, gold ornaments and cash before escaping,” DCP (East) Dr. V. Ravinder said. The gang was involved in six cases registered in last eight months in Saidabad, Saroornagar, Hayathnagar and Chaitayanpuri police station areas. The police recovered six tolas of gold, around two kg silver, Rs. 10,600 cash, three mobile phones and two auto rickshaws from them. The accused persons were produced before the court.

Cricket betting

The Special Operations Team (L. B. Nagar) on Tuesday busted a cricket betting racket and caught ten persons at Adibhatla. The prime accused Y Purushotham Reddy (39) was organising the betting at Y P R Enclave Guest House in Adibhatla and roped in two collection agents. The police seized Rs.1,38,800 cash, savings amount Rs.1,55,00, Re-connect TV 32” and one set up box. The accused were handed over to Adibhatla police station for investigation.
