Plans of a teenager and his friend to make money by procuring firearms from Uttar Pradesh and sell them here were foiled when Cyberabad police arrested them on Monday by seizing four firearms.

Along with two 8 mm tapanchas, another .32 mm tapancha and a country-made revolver of 7.62 calibre, 10 live rounds were recovered from the arrested duo -- Mohd. Imran (19) and Ashish Gupta (22).

Their arrest helped avert commission of serious crimes, Special Operations Team Officer K. Govardhan Reddy said at a press conference.

Imran from Medak district and Gupta of Jhansi district in U.P. became friends while they were working in a private company two years ago. Later, Imran quit the job while his friend joined another company.

“Imran wanted to make money by hook or crook and persuaded Gupta to bring firearms through the latter’s acquaintances in UP so that they can earn money by selling the weapons in Hyderabad,” Mr. Reddy said. A year ago, Gupta brought the first weapon.

He managed to bring in three more firearms later.
