Five held for vandalising idol at Osmania University

The Osmania University police on Sunday nabbed five persons for allegedly vandalising the idol of a goddess on the campus premises during clashes between two groups on Saturday.

Osmania University Police Inspector P. Ashok said the cases under Sections 153A, 147, 148 and 427 read with 149 of IPC were registered against the five Ph.D. and MA students and nabbed them.

The campus witnessed violent incidents on Friday and Saturday after rival students groups attacked one another following a tiff over a missing mobile phone. Several police parties have been called in view of the potential for trouble.

Seven activists of ABVP were detained for allegedly attacking a student.

The Inspector said special police pickets were posted in the campus to prevent any untoward incidents.
