Five held for trying to exchange demonetised Brazilian currency

The Commissioner’s Task Force (Central) team on Tuesday apprehended five members of a gang who tried to exchange demonetised Brazilian currency. On a tip-off the team caught Y. Mani, A. Umapati, G. Karthik, R. Chiranjeeevi and K. Satish while two others gang members Kumar and Ravi are absconding.

The police seized 581 notes, a car and five cell phones from them. As of now, Brazil was using currency called Reals, while the gang tried to exchange Cruzados, which were demonetised by that country earlier.

Foreign students assault doctor

Two foreign students were held by the Afzalgunj police on charge of manhandling doctors at the casualty ward of Osmania General Hospital on Monday night.

According to the police, Abdul Aziz (20), a native of South Sudan and Hasan Ali (25) from Nigeria met with an accident and were shifted to the hospital. “The duo picked up argument with a house surgeon Ramakrishna and manhandled him over some issue,” the Afzalgunj police said.

Mason murdered

A mason was killed allegedly by unidentified persons at Chevalla in Ranga Reddy district early on Tuesday. The man, S. Yadiah (57), of Miralam Mandi in the city left his house on Monday morning saying that he was going on some work. On Tuesday morning, locals noticed his body lying by the roadside at Chevella Gundamba. “The miscreants threw boulders on Yadiah’s head resulting in injuries and subsequent death,” the Chevella police said.
