Fisheries Board to fund three modern fish markets in city

They will come up at Kukatpally, Nacharam and Begum Bazar

The messy fish markets being housed near dilapidated buildings will soon be a thing of the past with the government giving the go ahead to the GHMC for taking up construction of three wholesale and modern fish markets in the twin cities.

Rs. 100-cr. project

The National Fisheries Development Board will be funding 90 per cent (Rs. 67 crore) of the total project cost of little more than Rs.100 crore for all the three modern markets which are going to come up at Kukatpally, Nacharam and Begum Bazar.

Site details

The site details and necessary reports were sent to the NFBD which had offered to fund the construction. The Board had cleared three of the markets with the condition that the balance 10 per cent or any other additional cost will have to be borne by the civic body.

The Kukatpally fish market is estimated to cost Rs.27.8 crore with the NFDB funding Rs.25 crore and balance of Rs.53.20 lakh by the GHMC.

The Nacharam fish market is estimated to cost Rs.24.9 crore with the NFDB to fund Rs.24.4 crore and the GHMC Rs.29.40 lakh. Begum Bazar fish market is estimated to cost Rs.52.5 crore with the NFDB providing Rs.25 crore and the GHMC bearing the rest.
