Water to farmers from Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project from June onwards

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has instructed officials to speed up work for completion of Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP) to lift Godavari water from June onwards.

The Chief Minister inspected the Goliwada pump house in Anthargaon mandal on Wednesday. When officials informed him that they had completed erection of four pumps and the remaining five were under various stages of progress, Mr. Rao told them to conduct the dry run of the four pumps by this month-end. He directed them to ensure that all the remaining five pumps were installed and dry run completed by March 31. He said the nine pumps at the Goliwada pump house would be lifting daily 2 tmc of water and they were designed to lift 3 tmc of water also per day.

KCR launched his second day inspection tour of KLIP by heli-hopping from Kannepalli gravity canal in Jayashankar-Bhupalapalli district in the morning. He inspected the Kannepalli gravity canal covering the 13.2 km by road and stopping at some places to check works quality.

Later, he visited Annaram barrage site and appreciated the officials for installing 66 floodgates and completing 90% of the work. However, at Sundilla barrage in Peddapalli district, Mr. Rao expressed his displeasure over the slow progress of work compared to Medigadda and Annaram barrage work when officials said that they could complete only 46% of the work pertaining to the revetment of the 17-km flood bank. “Why the delay in the work when we are extending all cooperation?,” a miffed CM asked. He told them to complete all the work at Sundilla and Goliwada pump house by March 31 at any cost, as a copper dam is being constructed at Medigadda to lift water for the conduct of trial run of the pumps from April onwards.

‘No compromise’

Reiterating the government’s commitment to provide irrigation sources from KLIP from the ensuing kharif season, he told the officials to expedite the work without compromising on quality.

After lunch at Goliwada, he visited the Rajeshwar Raopet village of Jagtial district to inspect the SRSP rejuvenation works of lifting the KLIP water through SRSP flood flow canal. He also conducted a review meeting at the site and expressed displeasure over the slow progress. Due to paucity of time and poor light, the CM only conducted an aerial survey of Rampur pump house in Mallial mandal and returned to Hyderabad.

He was accompanied by Chief Secretary S.K.Joshi, DGP Mahender Reddy, CMO secretary Smita Sabharwal, government adviser G. Vivekanand, and irrigation officials. He was received by Manthani MLA D. Sridhar Babu, Peddapalli MLA D. Manohar Reddy, Ramagundam MLA Korukanti Chander Patel, Legislator Vemula Prashanth Reddy, Collector A. Sri Devasena and others.
