For someone who is the mother of three kids and at 33, Mary Kom, is by all means an outstanding champion who has redefined the levels of excellence at the highest level and still gunning for another appearance in the Rio Olympics later this year. Exactly for this reason, Mr. Rajeev Reddy of Country Club, says he chose her as the Brand Ambassador for his Club and also launched the Thumbs Up membership card which he formally handed it over to the boxing legend.

“Her (Mary Kom) career in a way resembles mine. We tread on similar paths full of hardship, challenges to reach where we are now. That’s why I felt Mary should be the perfect ambassador given her long list of achievements despite adversity,” Mr. Reddy said.

For her part, Mary Kom stressed on the importance of fitness for women in the modern era.

“You should never think you can’t. You can. That should be the motto,” said the smiling pugilist. “I came from humble and poor family. I know what kind of struggle it means to reach certain levels of excellence in the world of sports. You have to fight for something or the other every day,” she remarked.

Asset

“Fitness is the biggest asset for anyone now. Or else, the whole world looks different for you. I am glad that Country Club has thought of me to be its Brand Ambassador. And, I am glad that this membership gives me the added facility of training in the best of fitness centres as otherwise there are not many places where I can have those physical conditioning exercises,” Mary Kom remarked.

“I am not yet approached by anyone to be nominated for Rajya Sabha seat. But, if it does happen, I will see it as a great honour. Right now, I am focusing on boxing and training really hard to qualify for the Rio Olympics this year,” she concluded.
