Farmers open to ‘Khet Heen Kisan’

February 28, 2015 04:48 pm | Updated 04:48 pm IST - SANGAREDDY:

There was positive response from the farming community to the proposed ‘Khet Heen Kisan’ initiative, with a majority of farmers stating that it would do wonders if implemented successfully.

“The number of landless farmers is more than those who have land. Organising farmers into groups and extending financial assistance to them through NABARD to take up farming will yield good results provided the government backs every group till results are achieved. If the results are positive, the farmer will not leave farming,” said Narasimha Rama Sharma, a farmer from Ismailkhanpet. He said that this would be helpful for families of farmers who had committed suicide as many of them knew nothing but farming.

However, Pakala Srihari Rao, founder of Telangana Rythu Rakshana Samithi (TRRS) expressed apprehension over the implementation of the scheme, questioning whether farmers would come forward for joint farming, stating that several problems had been faced in the past in this regard.
