Farmer robbed of Rs.10 lakh by fake policeman

A person posing as a policeman took away Rs. 10 lakh from a farmer diverting the latter’s attentionat Nacharam on Tuesday.

Sixty-year-old Malla Reddy, a farmer from Kolthuru village in Shamirpet on the city outskirts, was visiting a friend in Nacharam when a bike-borne stranger overtook him on Habsiguda-Nacharam stretch around noon.

Claiming himself as policeman, the bike rider shouted at Reddy for not halting immediately. “He insisted on seeing my vehicle documents and started checking my bike,” Reddy told the police.

The farmer withdrew Rs. 10 lakh earlier from a bank at Aliabad near Shamirpet and kept the cash inside the fuel tank cover. After verifying the documents, the ‘policeman’ left the place having stolen the cash from the tank cover without arousing suspicion of the farmer.
