Engg. colleges to open after RTC resumes services

September 26, 2011 11:22 am | Updated 11:22 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Engineering and professional colleges will be closed in the Telangana region till the APSRTC runs its services.

The colleges will open once the buses are back on the roads, according to N. Ramesh Babu, Chairman of Consortium of Engineering and Professional Colleges Managements Associations.

Though colleges are willing to open and students are willing to attend classes the biggest problem is the availability of transport. College managements said that 70 per cent of students use the RTC buses and other private transport to reach the colleges while only 30 per cent of students depend on the buses run by the college managements or their personal transport.

Meanwhile, some school managements have declared holidays till October 9 and also decided to conduct the quarterly examinations after the Dasara vacation. However, some schools declared holidays till the month end only with the hope that the agitation would subside.

A few schools have decided to take a decision on resuming classes on Monday morning after taking stock of the situation.

Several parents said that they were being updated through text messages from school managements only in the morning thus leaving very less time for preparation.
