Eflu students on hunger strike

Agitating students say new rules were imposed by a committee that had no student representation, which violated UGC as well as varsity norms

Several students of the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) have begun an indefinite hunger strike protesting what they called ‘anti-student’ policies of the administration.

The issues raised include a massive hike in mess caution deposit to Rs. 5,000 and privatisation of student health insurance among others.

New committee

Agitating students claimed a rules and regulations committee was formed before the academic session where certain rules pertaining to students were imposed.

However, the body had no student representation, which goes against the Eflu ordinance and UGC guidelines, they said in a statement here.

Students said the administration had not even considered a petition containing more than nine hundred signatures and numerous attempts at negotiations.

As a last resort, students were forced to take up hunger strike, the note said.
