The English and Foreign Languages University (Eflu), which grappled with a string of controversies in the past, is now facing fresh trouble, with Deputy Registrar (Finance) T.S. Rasool Saheb knocking on the doors of the State Minority Commission, alleging discrimination.
Mr. Saheb, who had also lodged a complaint at the Osmania University Police Station on January 2, alleged that he was being “harassed” by the Eflu administration, as he belonged to the minority community. “I was asked to vacate my room at short notice, and since I was not allowed to be there, the university authorities may fabricate evidence to implicate me,” he said in his complaint. Mr. Saheb was suspended on January 20 after an enquiry committee found prima facie evidence of breach of trust, according to university rules.
Meanwhile, the university authorities said that Mr. Saheb’s eviction and subsequent suspension were taken up in accordance with the laid-down procedures. “As Registrar, I am responsible for all files in the University, and I was within my rights to ask Mr. Saheb to hand over the files for further use of the CAG audit team,” P. Madhavan, Eflu Registrar, said. Mr. Saheb was asked to vacate the room primarily for logistical purposes, as the number of files present was huge, he added.

Eflu Vice-Chancellor Sunaina Singh said that all the proceedings of the enquiry committee were recorded. “There is no possibility of planting evidence against anyone, as the enquiry was conducted before witnesses, and photographic evidence was taken at each stage. We want to put an end to wrong practices in the university and will crack the whip on anyone found breaking the rules,” Prof. Singh maintained.
