Eamcet medical applications cross one lakh

The total number of applications for both medical and engineering seats may touch four lakh

For the first-time ever, the number of medical applicants for EAMCET has crossed the one lakh mark. Total applications for both engineering and medical streams may clock a record four lakh applications.

On the last day of submission of applications without late fee on Wednesday, there were a total of 1.02 lakh applicants for the medical stream, while the engineering stream received 2.83 lakh. On Wednesday, more than 13,000 students submitted their applications while the highest number of applications (21,796) was submitted on Tuesday since the submission facility opened on February 15.

Last year 3,89,661 applications were submitted of which 2,94,135 were engineering and 95,526 were in medical stream. In 2011, the engineering stream saw 2,78,974 applications and medical 68,588. In 2010 medical stream received 54,549 applications while engineering received 3,28,905 applications, the highest so far in EAMCET history. Officials expect the number to cross this year as thousands of students submit applications with the late fee too.

Last date with penalty

Candidates can submit forms till April 8 with Rs. 500 fine, till April 17 with Rs. 1,000 fine, till April 27 with Rs. 5,000 fine and till May 8 with a fine of Rs. 10,000.

The test will be held on May 10 and the results will be released on June 2.

The medical stream results, however, will be linked to the final outcome of the case in the Supreme Court with regard to the National Entrance-cum-Eligibility Test (NEET).
